Area of improvements in the Broker: 

  1. Upstox charge brokerage on Equity delivery, whereas most of the brokers offer ‘brokerage free investment’ in stock market.
  2. In Upstox basic plan, though brokerage is free, customers still have to pay the Demat Transaction Charges,which are comparatively higher than other discount brokers .
  3. Additional ₹20 per executed order is charged for Intraday square off orders when they are not squared off by the customer.
  4. Margin exposure is limited in the priority plan.
  5. Good Till Cancelled (GTC) and Good Till Date/Time (GTD) Orders are not available in Equity Segment.

How to open an Upstox account online?

  • Visit Upstox.com and go to account opening page.
  • Create an account by entering your email ID, creating a password and mobile number.
  • Enter your PAN card, Aadhar Card and verify with OTP sent on your mobile.
  • Pay the required fees for opening the account through the integrated payment gateway. The fees are based on the type of instruments like Equities, Derivatives, and Commodities etc., you want to trade.
  • Upload the documents mentioned above and choose the pricing plan.
  • Review and confirm the application.
  • Submit the application.
  • In a few minutes, you will receive an email with 2 attachments- a Demat form and a PoA (Power of Attorney) form.
  • You will receive the User ID and password required to sign in to your Upstox account with 24 hours of the activation of the account.
  • NOTE: Take clear pictures of your documents. Upload them when prompted.

To open a paperless account with Upstox, you need the following information or scan documents:

  1. Aadhar Number
  2.  PAN Number
  3. Canceled Cheque (Scanned)
  4. Bank Statement (Scanned)
  5. Signature Copy (Sign on an empty paper and scan)

What documents do I need to send while opening offline demat account?

Here are the documents you need to send to Upstox.

  • Identity proof: PAN card
  • Address Proof: Driving license/ Voter's ID/ Aadhaar Card/ Passport/ Rent Agreement (Registered)/ Latest utility bill (which has the name of the account holder)
  • Income Proof (not required for Equity and MF): Bank Statement (last 6 months)/ Salary slip (last 3 months)/ Latest ITR copy or Form 16.
  • Signature copy: Your signature on a blank sheet of paper.
    To make your account opening process convenient and concise, Upstox uses IMPS to verify your bank details and thus, does not require you to submit bank proof. Remember that all your documents need to be self-attested.

The Upstox account opening fee is Rs 249 for individual customers. The account opening fee for the HUF account is Rs 300. The account opening fee for a Private limited company and LLP is Rs 1500.
